Then, just as I was about to post (here, since the provided url is restricted), I noticed there was a new release!  I hadn't noticed this because the maven instructions still show the old version, and the new version does not seem to be in that repository... or at least I can't get my compiler to see the new release at all.  I tried that repository, and then I downloaded the jar there from your site and have tried including it in every imaginable way, but to no avail, it fails because it is unable to find any the annotations (whose classfiles are absolutely inside the jar I've included, both through eclipse and through gradle) and I am just out of ideas why not.
 

Ah, dangit!  Of course as soon as I post, I finally find the bottom of your very out-dated maven repository page!  It compiles now at least, and hopefully I'll be able to get my incredibly weird objects into your lovely-sounding database.  :)

And it works!  I'm to the point of getting only very sensible errors.  Please excuse my premature cry for help, but I am very grateful.

A quick question, can not the @Entity and @Embedded tags be inherited, from superclasses and/or entities?

Thank you for the update. Could you please explain what the cause was and how you solved it? The stack trace indicates some class loading mismatch (maybe related to Java 9 modules), but more info would be useful.

Well, I'm not sure at all what class loading issues were going on.  It seems I had some incorrect annotations, and a few other missing loose ends and when I got them sorted, it just started working again.  That error was... unhelpful.
