How to develop for a server license

#1

Hello,

our company recently aquired a server license, which can only be activated once for one machine (we were using the startup license until now).

How do our developers (windows/mac) run the application without restrictions if they can't use the key to generate an activiation code for their local objectdb?

Can they simply use the generated activation code of the server (linux) or do they need extra licenses?

Hello,

A server licence is intended for one machine. You can use it for one server and serve multiple databases from that server, including databases that are used for development and databases that are used in production.  Developers should be able to access the databases on this server using client-server mode from their machines with no need for a licence key.

If you need to install ObjectDB also on developer / test machines, a replicated machine, etc. you may consider upgrading to a site licence.

So the embedded mode cannot be used with a server license?

Embedded mode can be used on the server machine with the licence, but not on other developer machines with no licence (each server licence is for managing databases on one machine).

Okay, so either we:

  • switch to site license
  • get a server license for each developer
  • change from embedded to server-client

Thanks, now we know what we can do

Hi,If we use Objctdb server license on Amazon or Azure cloud server for one month, then the servers will be recycled. After half a year, we need to use the license on cloud server for another month. Can the original license still be valid?

Yes, but you will have to run activation again.
